Evacuees: If you are an evacuee not staying at a shelter you may pick up an emergency food pakcage at the Food Bank from NOON to 5 P.M. now through this Friday, September 19th (see address below).
Donations: CAFB will be taking on-site donations AROUND THE CLOCK until 5 p.m. this Friday, September 19th. The most needed items at this time are pop-top canned meats, peanut butter and granola bars.
This isn't over, there are many people who have lost their homes and will be in great need in the weeks to come. Please keep the donations flowing. You may also donate online. Be sure to check the box that indicates you want your donation to go to Hurricane Ike relief.
Update: Sept. 15 - Capital Area Food Bank of Texas is now desperate. As of 2:00 p.m. they can no longer fulfill donations of food boxes on site. As of 3:00 p.m. their donations are depleted. Please help! A $5 donation = $20 worth of food and necessities distributed by the food bank. They have also added dog food and personal care items to their list of most needed donations (see below).
Everyone's back in school, busy with work and homework but there are people who need our help now.
Hurricane Ike is barrelling toward the Gulf of Mexico and texas food banks are in full disaster relief mode. They need donations of bottled water, granola bars, canned meats with pop-top lids, peanut butter and diapers. If you are not in the area you can donate online. Be sure to check the box that states you want your donation to go towards Hurricane Ike.
It doesn't take a big donation to help out. As little as a $5 donation means the food banks can provide $20 worth of nutritious food.
Also, if you know someone who lives in the affected area and they are not evacuating to the convention center or a shelter they can get a 25 lb. box of food at Capital Area Food Bank. They are located at 8201 S. Congress Avenue between William Cannon & Slaughter Lane.
